A few minutes of prep makes the whole shipping process smoother and helps document your vehicle's condition. Here's exactly what to do before the carrier arrives.
Your pre-shipping checklist
- Wash your car so existing scratches and dents are clearly visible.
- Remove all personal items — they aren't covered by cargo insurance.
- Take dated photos of the vehicle from every angle.
- Leave about a quarter tank of fuel — enough to load and unload, not so much that it adds weight.
- Disable or remove toll transponders and parking passes.
- Turn off and disable any alarm system.
- Note any existing damage on the inspection report (Bill of Lading).
- Fold in mirrors, retract antennas, and secure or remove loose accessories.
- Check for fluid leaks and let us know about any mechanical issues.
At pickup and delivery
You or an authorized adult must be present to sign the Bill of Lading at both ends. Inspect the vehicle carefully at delivery and note anything before you sign. Damage is rare, but documentation protects you if a claim is ever needed.
